Instituto Chão is an interesting, affordable, collaborative and trendy place to buy vegetables, fruits and other foods, all organic, from very interesting communitarian projects, like selling foods from family or women only farms. They also have a small market selling biodegradable cleaners and soaps, organic meat and dairy. At the boxes and shelves you see everything at the cost price. You can pay only this price or contribute with some extra % to support their operations (this days they're mentioning they would need 30% extra for "paying the bills and nothing else, or 35% extra to pay the bills and have a fund to increase or improve the place and services). Even paying the 35% extra they ask for, for 2 people a regular weekly basket with 3 types of fruits, 4 types of vegetables (700g each) and 2 types of leafs 1 herb, we pay like 50 BRL, pretty much the same price at regular non organic non social fairs or at supermarkets (buying also non organic food). So, it's really worth. Also they have a small Cafe which serves organic breakfast and brunch/light lunch at very fair prices by the good taste you have.

Organic market. With 35% contribution turns expensive...but fitted for the neighbourhood middle-up class. There you can find variety of organic industrialised too like cleaning options. I think that the operation and size business is the reason for high prices...They could think smaller and work to offer products in a more accessible way.

This is a very unique indicative. Not only the prices are great but the cause also. They support organic agriculture by selling straight from the farmer. That do not add charges to it and are sustained based on a 35% donation on the total price of you basket. Be mindful that is important to contribute so they can keep on doing a great work. There are many options of vegetables and artisanal products. Also a café you can have some delights.

This place's business has grown since I first visited it. It offers only organic groceries at cost price and suggests client adding 35% as contribution at check out. The place supports small farmers and MST (a Brazilian political leftist movement that advocates for the land reform). Thumbs up for the bread, fruits, vegetables, eggs sold there. They even sell organic deodorant... And if you are keen to a quick snack you may have cakes and coffee there. Oh, and some reading is also possible there...

Great selection of fairly organic produces at the heart of Vila Madalena. Better quality and prices than in regular markets. There's a pleasant café as well.

Nice place and idea. I find that buying organic products should not be mixed with politics though (#elenão). Hence not 5 stars.
