Since 1893, the São Paulo state government began expropriations in order to preserve the sources of the Ipiranga River and the surrounding Atlantic Forest area. The year 1917 marks the founding of the State Park (Parque do Estado); sources were used until 1928 to supply water to the district of Ipiranga. The state park changed its name in 1969 and became the Parque Estadual Fontes do Ipiranga. The botanical garden has the following plant varieties: orchids, ornamental plants, aquatic plants, mushrooms, palm trees, fruit trees, trees providing timber, plants of the family Gesneriaceae, Marantaceae and pteridophytes. It counts among its facilities: the Botanical Museum Dr. João Barbosa Rodrigues, the Jardim de Lineu (Garden of Linnaeus) and the mirror of water, greenhouses and the Dr. Frederico Carlos Hoehne orchidarium, Lago das Ninfeias (Lake of the Waterlilies),trails and sculptures.

Great gardens, very well conserved, lots of trails for walking! Recommended to avoid holidays and lines! Must do in SP!

Entrance fee is R 10 per adult. Closed at 5PM. Very peaceful place to walk and take a rest. You can bring snacks to enjoy picnic here. Here is good to visit Sao Paulo zoo together.

A peaceful place to enjoy the day with family, as a couple, friends, or even alone. There is a pay entrance fee. (R10,00). It doesn’t get wild as Parque Ibirapuera on Sundays, and you can take short hikes in the forrest. You are able to see the monkeys on the trees. If hiking is not your thing, you can enjoy yourself by the little lake, or check the plants on the greenhouse. It’s very relaxing park.

Beautiful place. I went in the rain and still loved it. The have a small café and are conveniently located close to a bus stop.

I visited the garden on a rainy Sunday, I found it nice and well kept, certainly worth a visit in a city with few attractions.

Very relaxing park (during the week). Beautiful plants and walk ways. Also some monkeys living in the park. Watch for falling fruit ;)
